Every so often I’ll have something to share with people about plants, growing things, garden design, bugs – you know, the usual horticultural topics, and this is the space where I’ll be jotting these thoughts down. I may also go off the gardening topic from time to time just because something interesting has crossed my mind, or I’ve had an experience worth sharing while I’m out in the world interacting with other humans and animals.
For example, I was fortunate enough to be able to take a trip to Hawaii not long ago, and saw some amazing sights. I had never been to the islands before, so everything I saw was a treat for the eyes in my opinion. I loved everything; the ocean, the beaches, even the tourist center of Waikiki with all of it’s commercialism and swanky hotels and people. However some of the most beautiful things I gazed upon were the trees. And I saw some beauties.
It is hard to list in order which of the tree species I found most appealing, because really, many of them were just captivating, but if I have to make a choice about which is my favorite, I’m going with the Rainbow Eucalyptus. The one I took pictures of was in the Foster Botanical Garden in Honolulu, and it was immense! In fact, there were some of the biggest trees I have ever seen growing in that place, and if you are ever in Honolulu, I encourage you to take an hour or two and walk through that garden. You won’t be disappointed!
Here is the Rainbow Eucalyptus:
This photo gives you some idea of the size of this crazy tree, I only wish it showed off the colors of the bark better!
At any rate, when I have something interesting to tell about, this place is where I’ll put it!
